When you notice that your oven won’t heat properly, the most common cause is a defective igniter. A faulty igniter cannot open the safety valve, thus not allowing the to heat. Replace the igniter if this is the case.
A burned out bake element is another common culprit for this common oven problem. If you see holes or blisters on the bake element, it may need to be replaced.
A burned out bake element is the top cause of an uneven bake job because the broil element is having to do all the work itself. If the bake element does not glow red hot when turned on, it likely needs to be replaced.
On the other hand, your broil element may be burned out, leaving the bake element to do all the work. It too should glow red hot when on. If not, then the burned out broil element needs to be replaced.
If your range burners spark all the time, it is typically due to a defective spark ignition switch sending continuous voltage to the spark module. This causes the sparking you see. The spark ignition needs to be replaced if this is the case.
The spark module may be to blame for this common range problem as well. A faulty spark module cannot provide power to the surface burner spark electrode, causing constant sparking.
A bad surface element switch is the most common cause of a surface element not turning off. A faulty switch can lead to continuous voltage being sent to the surface element. Replace the defective switch if this is the problem.
Another common cause of this issue involves a shorted coil surface element. If shorted out, you can often see damage with the naked eye. If there is visible damage or no continuity, you will need a replacement coil surface element.
